Chris Eubank Sr. speaks out against his son's rematch with Conor Benn: “You was not in the ambulance"

Chris Eubank Sr. is not happy

Chris Eubank Jr. (35-3, 25 KO’s) and Conor Benn (23-1, 14 KO’s) meet in the ring this Saturday, looking to put an end to the legendary family feud ignited by their fathers all those years ago. 

Last time around, it was Eubank Jr. who came out on top. Though he was hardly unscathed, the fighting man rushed to the hospital not long after the final bell due to severe dehydration stemming from a severe, yet ultimately unsuccessful, weight cut. 

The 36-year-old weighed in 0.05 lbs over the limit in April; as a result, he found himself fined a whopping £375,000 - money that was added to the purse of his bitter rival Conor Benn.

It wasn’t the only controversy before the first fight; Eubank Sr. had spoken out against the bout during the lead-up and had been planning to skip out on the evening as a huge rift grew between him and his son. 

However, in an incredible twist, Eubank Sr. did attend and accompany his kin to the ring, in what will go down as one of British boxing's greatest moments of the 2020s. 

However, despite the pair having mended their relationship, Sr. is still publicly against the rematch, once again citing the dangers of cutting weight. 

“For three years I’ve been saying that this fight shouldn’t be because the weights are wrong,” Eubank Sr told The Sun. 

“I’ll never be proved wrong because I’m standing on the rules. So I’ve said all that I’ve had to say, it doesn’t change. So I’m not going to go bleating on the same subject. You will see, there will be consequences. Wait. Dehydration is dangerous."

He continued, reflecting on the torturous hours following the first bout, where he revealed his son was in incredibly bad nick on the way to the hospital.

“Watch what happens…You was not in the ambulance with my son [after the first fight]. He was touch and go in the ambulance. He was touch and go and what I’m saying to you is the public don’t see that.”
