Joseph Sumabong captures the OPBF Silver title in Bohol after defeating Taiwanese star Jheng Ciou

Asian boxing witnessed an absolute war in the strawweight division. World-ranked Filipino contender Joseph “The Hunter” Sumabong (11-1, 5 KOs) became the new Orient and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF, a WBC-affiliated organization) Silver champion after defeating the previously unbeaten Taiwanese champion, Jheng Ciou (9-1-1, 8 KOs), via a clear and indisputable unanimous decision. 

Sumabong also retained the WBO Asia Pacific title at minimumweight too.

The major event, held this past July 11th in Bohol, Philippines, was featured on the high-profile card presented by the prestigious PMI Bohol Boxing Promotion.

From the opening bell, both warriors left everything inside the ring. However, Sumabong’s aggressiveness, power, and masterful boxing set the pace throughout the 10 rounds, allowing him to dominate the action from start to finish against a resilient and dangerous Jheng Ciou, who made him earn every bit of the victory.

At the end of the intense ten-round distance, the official judges’ scorecards reflected the hometown fighter’s unquestionable superiority: Atty. Don Yballe: 99-90 / Edward Ligas: 98-91 / Atty. Aquil Tamano: 97-92.

With this convincing 3-0 unanimous decision victory, Joseph Sumabong not only snatches the OPBF Silver crown but also takes a monumental leap in his career toward a shot at the absolute world title of the World Boxing Council (WBC).

The fight was supervised by the Games and Amusements Board (GAB), guaranteeing total transparency for the matchup, while the action inside the squared circle was masterfully handled by international referee Melchor Arong.

With this result, Sumabong solidifies his name as one of the most formidable forces in Filipino boxing at 105 pounds.
