Frank Warren has voiced full support for Tyson Fury in retirement

Boxing promoter Frank Warren has voiced his full support for Tyson Fury following the heavyweight champion’s unexpected decision to retire.

Fury, widely regarded as one of the greatest heavyweights of his generation, revealed that he is calling it a day in a shock announcement earlier this week.

Speaking exclusively to the BetVictor boxing team, Warren expressed his surprise at the timing of Fury’s decision but was unequivocal in his support for the boxer’s choice.

"I wasn’t expecting it," Warren admitted. "I was quite surprised, but you know what - I respect him 100%. That is his decision, and I’ll respect where he’s at, and everybody else should do that as well."

Warren praised Fury’s incredible contribution to the sport, calling him a "magnificent servant for British and World boxing." Reflecting on Fury’s career, he highlighted the fighter’s resurgence in recent years.

"He’s had some of the best fights since his second coming—some amazing, exciting fights. When Tyson is in the ring, it’s always exciting. I’m sure he has discussed this with his family, and between them, they have advised him. This is the decision that he’s made, and God bless him—I hope he enjoys it," Warren said.

Fury's retirement comes after a storied career that includes his monumental win against Wladimir Klitschko, his legendary trilogy with Deontay Wilder, and his larger-than-life personality that transcended the sport.

When asked if he felt it was the right time for Fury to step away, Warren refrained from giving a personal opinion, emphasising the importance of respecting Fury’s judgment.

He added: "I’ve got to be honest—I really don’t want to comment on that. He’s the one who has taken the punches; it’s got to be what he thinks.

“If that’s what he thinks, then everybody should support him. I certainly do, and I won’t for one minute encourage him back at all. That is where he is at, that is where his mind is, so everybody should respect that.”

Warren also underscored the personal bond he shares with Fury, describing their friendship as equally significant as their business relationship.

This announcement marks a pivotal moment in boxing history, as Fury’s presence both inside and outside the ring has left an indelible mark on the sport. Whether this retirement is permanent or another chapter in the ever-evolving story of "The Gypsy King," Warren’s message is clear: Tyson Fury’s decision is his own, and it deserves unwavering respect.

As the boxing world processes the news, fans and fighters alike will undoubtedly celebrate the legacy of Tyson Fury—a true champion who did things his way.
