Quartermaine and Bateson stare down ahead of Saturday night’s title fight on DAZN

Undefeated European champion Danny Quartermaine lays claim to “underdog mentality”, while challenger Jack Bateson promises fireworks and says he “has nothing to lose”.

Hard stares in the steel city of Sheffield today as IBF and WBO European super-featherweight champion Danny Quartermaine (12-0, 4 KO’s) locked eyes with Jack Bateson (20-1, 6 KO’s) at the official pre-fight press conference for GBM: A Storm Is Coming event, airing live and exclusively on DAZN this Saturday night.

Defending champion Quartermaine laid claim to being the underdog in this all-British title contest, which will be staged at the Canon Medical Centre in Sheffield, England.

“I’ve said I’m the underdog because that’s my mentality - there’s no favourites here.

"He’s sounding confident but he’s in for a shock on the night. I’ve had a great training camp and the best man will win on the night - and that’s me. I think we will bring the best performances out of each other, I’m looking forward to it,” he said.

Bateson rolled his eyes. “I’m a bit fed up with all his talk about him being the underdog. He’s the defending champion, he’s the guy with the belts, he’s the guy with a promotional deal with GBM - all the pressure is on him. I have got nothing to lose,” he said.

“I’m so excited for this fight, this is a big fight, big night live on DAZN. I feel great at this weight, the strongest I have ever been, and I am ready to shine and show exactly what I am capable of.”

GBM promoter Izzy Asif said, “This one has got me excited and I think it’s genuinely a 50-50. You’ve got two completely different styles here and it’s going to produce a great fight. Quartermaine considers himself the best super-featherweight in the country and Bateson thinks he should be up there himself.”

Saturday night’s card also features a Commonwealth Super-Featherweight Championship Eliminator battle between Levi Giles and Qais Ashfaq, with the winner going forward to a shot at the prestigious belt in his next outing.

The DAZN main card begins at 7pm UK time.
