Carl Froch reveals damning Tyson Fury comeback opinion

“I’m not bothered”

Tyson Fury is continuing his path back into the heavyweight ranks. 

Fury (34-2-1, 24 KO’s) is scheduled to fight twice this year, once in April, before pursuing one of the division's best towards the year's end. 

Neither of his opponents have yet been confirmed, though WBO world champion Fabio Wardley (20-0-1, 19 KO’s) seems to be on ‘The Gypsy Kings’ radar – with the pair trading back and forth on social media. Fury is hoping to clinch heavyweight gold one last time. 

However, a Wardley fight wouldn’t materialise until later in the year; as a result, Fury’s opening bout of 2026 is at the forefront of fans' minds at present. 

Although Carl Froch has revealed that he does not care for the former champion's ring return, seeing it as one big farce.

“Coming back into boxing at 37 years old, when he has been out for over a year, is anybody bothered?” Froch stated on his YouTube channel. 

“Does anybody care? I don’t want to slander him because it’s Tyson Fury and he is great; he has been a great servant to boxing.

“He is a brilliant character, and I don’t want to give him any stick but I’m not f***ing a***d if he comes back to boxing or not. I’m not bothered; I don’t care anymore.

“He has retired five times. When he retired last, I knew that he was going to come back out of retirement. I think that the only reason that he should be coming back and the only fight worth looking at would be the ‘AJ’ fight.”

A heavy favourite to face Fury in a couple of months is Russian powerhouse Arslanbek Makhmudov (21-2, 19 KO’s). 

And while this would serve as a fantastic opportunity for the 37-year-old to shave off some ring rust, Froch sees Makhmudov as a meaningless opponent.

“There is an argument that Fury lost to [Francis] Ngannou, there’s one loss, but he got the decision, then he lost twice to Oleksandr Usyk.

“There are three fights there where he has been beat, really, and now he is coming back after over a year out, it doesn’t make any sense, it’s pointless.

“If you’re going to come back and fight and try to be a top boy, and you want to get back into the mix at world level, jump in there with someone like Moses Itauma or [Agit] Kabayel.”
