A flying visit to London saw WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman, together with brother Hector Sulaiman, Chair of WBC Cares UK Scott Welch and David Walker, surprise the kids at the UK’s oldest boxing club Repton.
Founded in 1884, it continues to flourish as an amateur club and numbers Olympic gold medalists and world champions among its members.
John H Stracey, Maurice Hope, Darren Barker, Audley Harrison were all ex-members.
Set in an old Victorian bath house it’s the setting for a number of music videos, films and photoshoots. A boxing gem.
WBC Cares Ambassador Michael Watson also came along, winning over a new generation of younger fans, by chatting with them and showing his skills on the pads and bags.
The kids were very happy to receive WBC caps, t-shirts and trainers, and even WBC Medals.
Thanks go to Wendell Henry for facilitating the visit and to all of boxing’s ‘back room’ staff in gyms up and down the UK and worldwide who give up their time to help kids on a pathway that gives them focus, ambition and a positive attitude.
