Undefeated Moses ‘The Native’ Jolly aims to become the first ever Welsh world heavyweight champion

Undefeated Swansea heavyweight Moses Jolly fights this Saturday night live on Sky Sports

Up and coming Swansea heavyweight Moses ‘the Native’ Jolly will make his first appearance on a major televised show this Saturday night, boxing at the Utilita Arena in Cardiff. The card will be broadcast live on Sky Sports and is promoted by Ben Shalom’s BOXXER.

Jolly will fight as part of a huge event in the Welsh capital, headlined by Olympic gold medallist Lauren Price MBE as she takes on Jessica McCaskill for her WBA, IBO & Ring Magazine World Welterweight Titles. The show will also feature Hughie Fury and Lewis Edmondson alongside a stacked undercard of Welsh talent.

The opportunity represents a major step up for undefeated Jolly who has boxed eight times as a professional on small hall shows, stopping six of his opponents inside the distance.

Born and raised in Swansea, Moses is of joint Jamaican and German heritage. Growing up, Moses experienced racism and was often made to feel like an outsider. Following an arrest for fighting at age 16 he decided to take up boxing, which he now credits as putting him on a more positive path in life. His upbringing inspired his moniker ‘the Native’, which reflects his belief that all people have the right to belong – whoever they are and wherever they are from.

Commenting on his immense potential, veteran manager Mickey Helliet – who made Tyson Fury’s first fight – said: “I would bet every penny I have that Moses will win a world title. Saturday night is just the start of the Native journey. Don’t blink”.

Swansea born and raised, Jolly is trained by David John at his gym in Llansamlet. Adding to Helliet’s praise, John said: “I have never seen someone of Moses’ size move so fast. He is Swansea’s answer to Muhammad Ali and can be a bigger star of Welsh sport than Gareth Bale.”

Remaining characteristically humble, ‘The Native’ simply wants to use his platform to show the boxing world what he is capable of. Moses Jolly said: “I am grateful for the opportunity to represent Swansea on this historic show for Wales. Ultimately my aim is to become the first ever Welsh world heavyweight champion, so I’m hungry for bigger and better opportunities. But for now my focus is on Saturday night and showing people what I can do”.

Boxing fans can watch Moses Jolly and the rest of the evening’s action this Saturday 11th May, live on Sky Sports YouTube from 17.10 followed by Sky Sports Main Event from 20.00. Viewers in Wales will be able to watch all the action live and free-to-air on BBC Wales.
