Tyson Fury confirmed date for Deontay Wilder rematch has been signed
'The Gypsy King' Tyson Fury (28-0-1) has claimed that a highly-anticipated rematch with the WBC heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder (41-0-1), has been signed to take place on February 22, 2020.
“The rematch has been confirmed and signed [for] 22 February. It’s on, the rematch,” Fury told the audience at a Q&A event at the Alhambra Theatre in Bradford, West Yorkshire.
Fury’s first fight with Wilder in December last year was controversially scored as a draw, with many observers believing the Briton deserved the win, despite being knocked down twice at the Staples Center.
The 30-year-old from Manchester has vowed not to let his rematch with the fearsome American go to the judges, instead aiming to win Wilder’s WBC belt outright.
“This time I am going to knock him the fuck out,” Fury promised. “This time I haven’t been out the ring for three years … I haven’t been abusing too much alcohol.”
'The Bronze Bomber' is currently scheduled to defend his belt in another return bout, against Luis Ortiz, on September 28. Wilder revealed that he wantd to answer any questions of controversy after the Cuban managed to rock him in their first fight in March 2018, with Wilder rallying back to end matters in the 10th round.
Should he beat the Cuban again, he looks set for another showdown with Fury, who defeated Tom Schwarz inside two rounds in Las Vegas last month.
