Troy Williamson reveals why he is not happy with the EBU and BOXXER

Troy "The Trojan" Williamson (22-4-1, 16 KOs) has been stripped of his European super-middleweight title, as the EBU do not allow direct rematches.

BOXXER triggered the rematch clause for Troy Williamson to defend his titles to Callum Simpson next, which has now cost "The Trojan" a shot at the IBF title against Osleys Iglesias.

Williamson defeated Simpson in the 10th round in December to win British, Commonwealth and European super-middleweight titles. Their rematch is being targeted for May 2026.

Troy Williamson tweeted: "[Finger up to] the EBU. They stripped, I didn't vacate. BOXXER activating the rematch clause, delaying my chance of becoming a word champion.

"A rematch nobody wants to see, no belts on the line, another beatdown."

When asked by IFL TV how he sees the "unwanted" rematch going, the County Durham star said, "I think it'll go earlier. I think it'll go a lot earlier. I genuinely don't see it going past six rounds. I've been in with him now, I know exactly what he's got; what he can give, and it's not a lot, to be fair.

"I've heard that he's changed trainers, I don't think that's gonna help. Like, you can't make massive changes in, what, two or three months. If it does happen, we need a date asap. Hopefully, get a date this week. I don't wanna be waiting around for too long. I wanna be out at the end of March, beginning of April, hopefully. I've got a baby on the way, due in eight weeks, so sooner the better for me."

The 34-year-old from Darlington lost four from five fights during 2022-2025, seemingly on his way to boxing obscurity until he surprised Mark Dickinson with a ninth-round knockout in September last year to clinch the English super-middleweight title, which he followed up with an even bigger win by knocking out Callum Simpson in 10 to bag the British, Commonwealth and European belts - two KOs, four titles. 

Troy is now a two-weight British champion, astonishingly winning the Lonsdale belt down at super-welterweight four years ago in 2021.
