Gervonta Davis arrested a few days after being stripped of world title

Three-weight world champion Gervonta Davis has been arrested after police went on a two-week manhunt to find the former world champion.

A warrant was issued by Miami Gardens police who wanted to bring the champion into custody on charges of battery, false imprisonment and kidnapping.

The charges are in regard to an alleged incident in a nightclub on October 27, after a lawsuit was filed by ex-girlfriend Courtney Rossel.

Authorities have now been able to track down Davis, 31, who was brought in by authorities at a retail store with no issues.

He will now be transported to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Facility, Miami, where he will learn more of his legal calendar and be able to enter a plea.

The arrest was made on Wednesday with a bond of $16,000 set for his bail.

Rossel is pursuing compensatory and punitive damages in excess of $50,000 and wants Davis to face a jury trial.

Gervonta Davis' charges and alleged incident

The incident was said to have taken place at around 4:15am in the back room of the nightclub.

A police statement issued by lead detective Gary Florencio said: “The victim stated that the subject [Davis] grabbed her by her hair with one hand and grabbed her by the throat with the other.

“She further stated that [Davis] escorted her down the stairway and toward the VIP parking garage, while maintaining his grip on her head and neck.

"During the incident, [Davis] allegedly stated, ‘You think that I would not find you?’”

The victim sought medical attention for her minor injuries, including bruising on her arm according to the judge in the statement of facts.

Gervonta Davis boxing career and title strip

Davis was set to face YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in a lucrative bout last November.

But the bout was cancelled given Gervonta was wanted in connection with the charges.

Anthony Joshua instead stepped in and the mega event went ahead in December, with the Briton knocking out Paul.

As for the 31-year-old, he was informed last week that his WBA lightweight world title would be downgraded.

He is now a 'champion in recess', ending his lengthy spell as a title holder with the governing body.

If he does make a comeback in the imminent future, Davis will be permitted to fight with his title on the line.

But his future is clearly up in the air, and no timeframe has been given on any boxing return.
