Ryan Garner was born 5 January 1998 in Southampton, England.
He first took up boxing at the age of 10 because he was always fighting, either at school or with his two older brothers.
Representing Southampton ABC, the youngster won 41 from 56 amateur contests and represented England 19 times. He won the 2013 European Junior Championships and 2014 National ABAs.
He started an apprenticeship in carpentry, but found it too difficult and exhaustive doing both a full-time job and boxing training together, getting up every morning at 6am and training in the evenings at 7pm.
18-year-old Garner turned pro with promoter Frank Warren in 2016, signed to a standard £800-per-round deal.
He is trained by Wayne Batten.
Garner likens himself to his boxing hero, Ricky Hatton. He is also a huge fan of Vasiliy Lomachenko, and he rates Micky Ward vs Arturo Gatti as his favourite fights.
In May 2017, after taking two lines of class A drug cocaine, 19-year-old Garner crashed his brother's Ford Fiesta into a parked car and was subsequently arrested.
In August 2017, Ryan was convicted of driving while under the influence of cocaine at Southampton Magistrates Court and sentenced to an 80-hour unpaid work order and banned from driving for two years. The British Boxing Board of Control also suspended him.
His boxing nickname is "The Piranha".
His career-best win came against former WBO #1 Archie Sharp via UD in July 2024.
Ryan won the European super-featherweight title in a unanimous decision victory over undefeated Spaniard Salvador Jiminez in March 2025.
His last four opponents' combined records adds up to 64-2-2.
When he's not dieting in camp, he likes to eat Asian food, mostly Thai and Chinese.
He used to collect coins as a hobby when he was a teenager.
