‘Wild’ Webb is an Ultimate Boxxer heavyweight champion about to challenge for the English title.

Ahead of his clash with reigning English heavyweight champion Fabio Wardley on week two of Matchroom's Fight Camp, GBN dug up 10 interesting facts about the Surrey sports star:

 

1 Born on September 23, 1987, in Chertsey, Nick is currently 33-years-old, stands at 6’5” tall and considers his optimal weight to be between 251-253lbs.

 

2 He is a big fan of superheroes, listing Batman and Hulk as his favourites.

 

3 His favourite fighter of all-time is Muhammed Ali, and rates Ali vs Cleveland Williams as his favourite fight ever. He once got a bit starstruck when he met Ali’s brother.

 

4 He began boxing very late, aged 20, but quickly took to the sport and reached the ABA Novices finals within a few fights, then won it the following year in 2012, then went on to be an Elites finalist in 2013 and semi-finalist in 2014, all within just 27 fights.

 

5 His grandad was his inspiration for taking up boxing as he was a bare-knuckle boxer. After he passed away, Nick went to a boxing gym – Woking ABC – in tribute to him.

 

6 An all-round sportsman, Nick used to throw shotput and discus at international level. He also played for teams in basketball and rugby, clearly favouring the sports that involve using the upper body!

 

7 Nick’s first manager and mentor is Scott Welch, a former British and European heavyweight champion known as ‘The Brighton Rock’. Welch fought all over the world as a pro, even at the famous MGM Grand in Las Vegas on the undercard of Tyson-Holyfield I, and challenged for a world title against, then unbeaten, Henry Akinwande for the WBO belt in Nashville. Movie fans will know Scott as Horace ‘Lights Out’ Anderson from Guy Ritchie’s film ‘Snatch’ who sends Brad Pitt skyward in their bare-knuckle fight scene.

 

8 Nick, known as 'Wild Webb the Lion', used to live and train in Brighton during weekdays with manager Scott and other pros such as Lloyd Ellett and former Southern Area middleweight champion Nick Jenman, and is very close to Chris Eubank Jr and his team.

 

9 He originally signed professional contracts with Hall of Fame promoter Frank Warren, a partnership which only lasted a year, and debuted at the York Hall in March 2015 with a 56-second knockout in front of the Box Nation cameras. As a free agent, he has appeared on Hayemaker Promotions, Cyclone Promotions, Hennessey Sports and Matchroom Boxing events and was last seen live on Sky Sports on the Lawrence Okolie v Isaac Chamberlain undercard when he blasted through Ante Verunica in two-rounds to score his 10th KO - he has actually only completed 26 of a scheduled 52-rounds due to his hard-hitting nature.

 

10 Webb was ordered to face both Nathan Gorman and Daniel Dubois for the English title in the past, as well as Joe Joyce for his Commonwealth strap, even signing contracts to fight, but none of the championship contests ever materialised for the frustrated fighter.
