The WBC impose a suspension on Dillian Whyte and his status as WBC Interim Champion
The World Boxing Council issued the following statement on July 30:
"An "A" Sample UKAD collected from Mr. Dillian Whyte in relation with his bout against Oscar Rivas yielded an adverse finding. In light of that adverse finding, and pending the outcome of the WBC’s own investigation and adjudicatory process, the WBC is provisionally suspending the WBC’s recognition of Dillian Whyte as WBC Interim World Heavyweight Champion and Mandatory Challenger of the division.
The WBC has notified Mr. Whyte and his team of the WBC's suspension, and that it will afford Mr. Whyte the opportunity to present its position to the WBC at an investigative hearing which will take place at a place and time to be announced in the near future.
Throughout its investigation and hearing, the WBC will afford Mr. Whyte and his team the opportunity to present any available information and materials, and any exculpatory evidence they might deem appropriate."
31-year-old Londoner Dillian Whyte claimed the WBC interim heavyweight belt after defeating the previously unbeaten Colombian contender Oscar Rivas, at the main event in the O2 Arena in London, England on July 20.
Rivas surprised everyone by sending home fighter Whyte to the canvas in the ninth round with a crisp right uppercut, but the Jamaican-born Londoner admirably managed to survive the storm, on unsteady legs, to end the round safely and finish even stronger in the concluding rounds of the 12-round heavyweight contest.
The judges scored it 115-112, 115-112 and 116-111, all in favor of the Briton, signed to Eddie Hearn and trained by Mark Tibbs.
It extends his record to 26-1 and his winning streak to 10 fights unbeaten since his sole career defeat to domestic rival Anthony Joshua in 2015.
Whyte, known as 'The Body Snatcher', has been controversially positioned as the WBC #1 contender to Deontay Wilder's crown for an extended period stretching well over 20 months now.
Following the recent findings, that ranking is now in serious jeopardy. Whyte has also issued statements of his own that he has a team of lawyers investigating the case.
Whyte once served a two-year ban imposed by the British Boxing Board of Control during 2012-2014 for use of banned substances.
