Teofimo Lopez targeting return in spring 2021 and will be 'looking for big fights'

Teofimo Lopez wants to make big fights but dismisses Devin Haney as top contender at 135

Teofimo Lopez is keen to make a return to action next spring after dethroning pound for pound top fighter Vasyl Lomachenko last month to claim the unified lightweight world championship.

The American outboxed a lacklustre Ukranian to manouevre his way to the top of the division and earn a place in the pound for pound top ten across the show.

'The Takeover' would like to show the world that he wants to continue fighting in these big events and is unsure about any potential next opponent, but has been embroiled in a feud between Devin Haney.

He told the Morning Kombat podcast: "135, you have the likes of these guys. And, I’m the king of it all, What can they bring to the table? Really, what can they bring to the table for me to make [a fight between us]. I bring a lot to the table, you know?

“I want to make fights happen. I want to make big fights happen. It’s all about who is going to be that top dog to make those fights happen? Such a big fight that people are just drooling to see. We have a lot of potential fights.”

“However, Devin Haney, poor performance from him. When people have high expectations, you have to [make a statement]. I can’t speak for the other guys in the division, but I want big fights. We’re hoping for March or April," Lopez said.

To become undisputed champion, Lopez would reportedly have to dislodge the 'franchise' belt from Devin Haney which would most likely be his ideal task, but after the recent comments on his fellow American, he may look to another big fight in order to further display his potential and idea to dominate the division for years to come.
