Jessie Magdaleno vs Yenfiel Vicente - who wins?

The boxing schedule is well and truly filling up again as Top Rank treats fight fans on June 11, with former world champion Jessie Magdaleno (27-1, 18KOs) meeting Yenifel ‘The Lightning’ Vicente (36-4-2, 28KOs) in a 10-round super featherweight contest at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas.

“This should be pretty straight forward for Magdaleno, although his opponent has a remarkable record where he hasn’t been stopped in 43 fights.

Jessie goes into the fight as the clear favourite on June 11, but I wouldn’t put money on the fight ending in the early rounds. I’d say Magdaleno will win comfortably on points.

An outstanding career at amateur level that has continued into his professional career, defeating many challengers on the road to becoming the WBO world super bantamweight title, beating a Filipino legnd Nonito Donaire to win the world title, who is a future Hall of Famer.

Magdaleno's experience will be too much for his opponent, Yenifel Vicente. The American’s ability is far greater than the man from the Dominican Republic."

"Magdaleno is still only 28 and has a good win against Nonito Donaire on his record. He has decent skills and should be near his athletic prime.

His one loss against an inspired Isaac Dogboe was a surprising blip and might point towards certain limitations, but they are unlikely to be confirmed by Yenifel Vicente, who has never excelled when stepping up against decent opposition."

"Magdaleno's experience and boxing ability is unquestionable and he goes into this fight as the favourite. His skill level is far above Vicente, who has never ventured anywhere near world level, but he has that danger that comes with being an underdog who can bang! He’s got a high KO ratio, his shots are super heavy, but they’re also slow and laboured from the fights I’ve seen, but he still goes on to win early somehow.

I expect Magdaleno to run rings around Vicente, but he has never been stopped in 43 fights, so it’s hard to put money on an early night. If Magdaleno had been knocking out all his opponents lately, then I’d predict him to win inside the distance, but he hasn’t, so I’d play it safe and say that Magdaleno wins on points – unanimous decision.”
