Oleksandr Usyk has a lot of love for Anthony Joshua
As part of his preparations for a highly anticipated ring return, ‘AJ’ revealed that he has split from trainer Ben Davison, in favour of working with former opponent Oleksandr Usyk’s team in Spain.
Joshua is a heavy favourite heading into the bout, with the boxing world of the opinion that anything other than a devastating stoppage win for the 36-year-old throws his career into real jeopardy.
Should the Briton come through the fight unscathed, rumours have been swirling about a potential 2026 showdown with ‘The Gypsy King’ Tyson Fury (34-2-1, 24 KO’s).
Fury is currently retired, but a clash between the pair has been long-awaited, and the consensus from both camps seems to be that a meeting his highly probable.
A win for Joshua would undoubtedly shoot him back into world title contention, and with Usyk having tasted victory over Fury on two occasions, training with the Ukrainian’s camp seems to be a very sensible decision from the former two-time unified heavyweight king.
Usyk looks to have unlocked the blueprint to defeating the ‘Gypsy King’, and he has stated that he would be more than willing to share his secrets with ‘AJ’, should the bout come to fruition.
“Yeah, I help him,” Usyk told Boxing King Media.
“Two versus one.”
The Ukrainian has been working with Joshua in the lead-up to the Briton’s December 19 return, and is full of praise for his former foe.
“I like this guy, because this guy is smart. I think this guy has a very big heart. He really loves boxing.”
Speaking on working with Joshua, Usyk revealed that they have not tried to alter the 36-year-old’s style, instead curating a game plan that plays into the heavy-handed Brit’s strengths.
“We not give my style. We, my team, its not only one lion, its only Usyk? No, we have another, different style. I’m southpaw, Anthony is regular. Anthony doesn’t move like me. Listen, we give tools that help Anthony grow. My team with plan, give me what helps me. My team gives plans what helps anyone – not only my plan.”
