Moses Itauma vs Justus Huni for the WBO Interim title

Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has confirmed that talks have begun for Moses Itauma (11-0, 9KO) to face Justis Huni (11-0, 6KO) for the WBO Interim world heavyweight title.

45-year-old Hearn confirmed: "I think you're going to see Justis Huni against Moses Itauma and I think it's a great fight, I really do. I think that fight will be for the WBO Interim world title. We're already talking to Queensberry about it."

Chatham's Itauma, 20, is signed to Frank Warren's Queensberry Promotions, while unbeaten Aussie Huni is with Matchroom Boxing.

25-year-old Queensland boxer, Huni, fights today on the undercard of Jai Opetaia vs David Nyika, live on DAZN.

He defends his WBO Global and IBF Pan Pacific heavyweight titles to South African Shaun Potgieter.

Justus Huni was a Youth World champion in 2016 and won bronze in the World Championships in 2019. He missed out on the 2020 Olympics due to injury.

Due to his extensive and successful amateur career, he jumped straight into a 10-round championship contest on his professional debut in October 2020 against Australian heavyweight champion, Faiga Opelu. Huni dominated throughout the bout and forced his opponent's corner to throw in the towel to protect Opelu from further damage in the seventh round, and became the Australian heavyweight champion in his pro debut.

Huni defended his national title three times before challenging and collecting regional titles with the IBF and WBO.

On October 28, 2023 in Cancun, Mexico, Huni outpointed Andrew Tabiti for the WBA International heavyweight title.

In his next fight on March 8, 2024 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, he defeated former IBO world cruiserweight champion Kevin Lerena by unanimous decision for the WBA International heavyweight title.

On March 8, 2024 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Huni defeated Kevin Lerena by unanimous decision to win the vacant WBO Global heavyweight belt, which he has successfully defended once, and defends for a second time today.

Kent puncher Moses Itauma won all 24 amateur bouts with 11 wins by knockout, collecting gold medals in Schools, Juniors, European Youth and World Youth championships.

He rose to fame after signing with Frank Warren in 2023 and stories of him sparring world champions straight after school at the age of 15 were circulated.

As a pro, the southpaw has lived up to his hype with seven first round KOs. He raced to 7-0 in his first year, then claimed his first title - the WBO Inter-Continental - in his ninth fight in May 2024.

He took his first test against giant Viking Mariusz Wach in July last year, passing with flying colours, with a second-round stoppage.

Then came his biggest risk against highly-regarded Aussie Demsey McKean in December on the Oleksandr Usyk vs Tyson Fury 2 undercard. He made the word sit up and take notice as he folded 'The Tower' in half in under two minutes in a devastating display of power, skill and maturity.

The Slovakian-born Brit is racing against the clock to become the youngest ever world heavyweight champion, which is a record currently held by Mike Tyson when he was 20 years and four months old.

Itauma is ranked WBC #14, WBA #9, WBO #6, IBO #41.

Huni is ranked WBC #13, IBF #15, WBO #5, IBO #13.
