Legendary London boxing club with over 200 champions secures major investment for expansion

London’s legendary West Ham Boxing Club secures major investment to transform facilities and expand youth provision

Awards for All grant, Dulux Community Makeover, and funding from the Powerday Foundation will help create state-of-the-art facilities for 100 new young members

West Ham Boxing Club - the oldest ‘East End’ and most decorated amateur boxing club in the London Borough of Newham - has today announced a landmark transformation of its facilities in Plaistow that will be delivered thanks to funding received from the National  Lottery Awards for All Fund, Dulux Community Makeover and the Powerday Foundation.

The £60,000 investment will fund the complete renovation of the club’s changing rooms, showers and youth meeting spaces, and enable West Ham Boxing Club to welcome 100 new young participants aged eight to 18 through extended opening hours and new tailored sessions.

Founded over 104 years ago and based in the heart of East London, ‘The Hammers’ has produced more than 200 National Champions, 50 England Internationals and European Champion – Videl Riley - and Olympic gold medallist Terry Spinks, as well as Nigel Benn, Matt Marsh and Kevin Mitchell.

This latest investment ensures its world-class legacy continues to serve future generations of young Londoners.

Dean Hollington, Chairman of the West Ham Club, added: “We are extremely grateful to the National Lottery, Dulux and our long-term partners at the Powerday Foundation for enabling us to improve our facilities and provision - quality changing rooms, showers, and a safe youth meeting space that the young people of Newham truly deserve.”

The Powerday Foundation - the charitable arm of Powerday, a London-based independent waste management and recycling company – was founded in 2011 to improve the lives of young Londoners through sports, education, and employment opportunities. For over a decade, it has channelled funding, resources, and expertise into boxing clubs and grassroots organisations throughout the capital.
