Gilberto Ramirez vs Marcus Browne is off
The WBC received a communication from Gilberto Ramirez (41-0, 27KOs) management withdrawing from the WBC ordered fight against Marcus Browne (23-1, 16KOs) for the interim light-heavyweight title fight.
It is unfortunate as Team Ramirez had asked for an extension to the free negotiations period only to back out at the last minute, consequently the purse bid scheduled for tomorrow, February 12, has now been cancelled.
New Jersey's 'Sir' Marcus hasn't fought since August 2019, when he lost hs WBC Silver and WBA interim light-heavyweight titles to Jean Pascal, after only winning the two belts against former world champion Badou Jack earlier that year.
Trained by Hector Zapari, Ramirez was the WBO world super-middleweight champion for over three years - he won the belt from Arthur Abraham in 2016 - and has a record of 6-0 in world title fights. Brit Billy Joe Saunders now holds that belt.
The 29-year-old Mexican southpaw has won his first two fights at light-heavyweight by stoppage. It's unclear what his next plans are.
