Gervonta Davis in talks for rematch with 'Pitbull' Isaac Cruz

It's not one of many superfights fight fans are craving for 'Tank', but looks like it may be served up next

Three-weight world champion Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis (29-0, 27KO) still doesn’t have his next date set in stone, however there have been various rumours doing the rounds of late as to who his next foe may be.

One of the perceived front runners is a rematch with ‘Pitbull’ Isaac Cruz (25-2-1, 17KO), whom Davis edged out in a very entertaining 12 round battle in December 2021 in what was likely his toughest bout to date.

According to Michael Benson of TalkSport, via twitter, talks are underway with Isaac Cruz’s rep, Sean Gibbons. This fight is of course hashing over old ground and is not a superfight with the likes of a Devin Haney or a Shakur Stevenson.

The fans reaction is reflected in the comments to Benson’s article, with 77.6% of fans voting they wouldn’t be interested in seeing the rematch in one poll from the 13th round.

Despite the obvious dissatisfaction that it is not one of the mammouth events that 28-year-old Davis's talent clearly warrants, this would still be a decent match-up considering the competitiveness of the first battle, with 25-year-old Mexican Cruz, also coming off a three fight win streak since the Davis defeat, most recently getting the nod in a split decision over the 21-0 Giovanni Cabrera for the WBC Silver bauble.

Let’s see if this latest rumour comes to fruition, with boxing fans keen to see ‘Tank', arguably now one of the biggest stars in the sport, back in the ring in a significant match up as soon as possible. This should really be the last fight at this level however, with fights with the likes of Haney, Stevenson and Teofimo all being looked at for next year.
