Frank Warren admits that Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua is not yet written off

There's still a chance the pair could finally meet in the ring

Tyson Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) is preparing for his April comeback versus Russian powerhouse Arslanbek Makhmudov (21-2, 19 KOs). 

Set for the Tottenham Hotspur stadium, the clash will see ‘The Gypsy King’ step back between the ropes for the first time since succumbing to back-to-back defeats at the hands of Oleksandr Usyk. 

Originally, Fury was planning a ‘tune-up’ fight before an eventual showdown with fellow British star Anthony Joshua. 

However, following the tragic passing of ‘AJ’s’ two close friends in a car accident the heavyweight was involed in in Nigeria, the PPV spectacle looked cancelled.

With indications that the hard-hitting heavyweight star has returned to training, the long-awaited all-British scrap may not be completely off the cards.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Frank Warren agrees that there is still potential for the pair to finally go toe-to-toe.

"Obviously the dreadful thing, with that tragic car crash, AJ lost two of his good friends, part of his team, I don't know what he's going to do."

"That [fight] would sell out anywhere. That's all about timing. AJ, if he does fight on, will he want a comeback fight and so forth? It's all about timing and basically see what happens and see where it all goes."

"The only person who's going to determine whether he wishes to fight on is himself," he said. 

"I don't know if he wants to do it. He's a very wealthy guy. He may do, he may not, who knows? But that was what the intention was.

"For me if you're going to retire four or five years then come back, your powers are going to diminish in that period of time. So if you're going to fight, fight when you're at the best that you can be and the best he can be is where he's at right now."

Warren went on to reveal that Tyson is not planning to wait for AJ to make a decision, stating that ‘The gypsy King’ will continue, business as usual in the meantime.

"Tyson has categorically said he doesn't want to fight anything like that," he said. "That's not something that's on his agenda.

"Tyson, he's not going to sit around. He has this fight and he'll want to be out again. He wants to be busy.

"All these fights are great fights to make. They're all unbelievable good quality fights. The heavyweight division's so lively as I keep saying at the moment. There's some fabulous match-ups there, and lots of Brits involved."
