Frank Warren reveals Daniel Dubois suffering injury blow that sees him sidelined until the New Year

Daniel Dubois’ comeback may not happen as soon as first hoped

Following his July loss to Oleksandr Usyk (24-0, 15 KO’s), Dubois had originally planned to make his return to the ring later in the year; however, following yet another injury, his redemption fight will likely be pushed into the New Year. 

It’s not yet been revealed what injury the Brit is suffering from; however, Frank Warren revealed that it has put a significant delay on his heavyweight plans.

“The fight we wanted to make was one between him and Joseph Parker,” the promoter told Talk Sport.

“We offered him the fight, but he is now injured. So I now doubt that he will fight again this year. He will likely return in January or February next year.”

Dubois' (22-3, 21 KO’s) defeat to Usyk saw him fundamentally broken down by the slippery Ukrainian, as he eventually succumbed to a monstrous left hook that left him unable to recover in the fifth round. 

A longer recovery time could be seen as a positive, with a quick ring return maybe not giving ‘Triple D' enough time to recover from the huge psychological blow.

Parker (36-3, 24 KO’s) is next in line for a chance at the Undisputed heavyweight crown, but with the Ukrainian heavyweight king currently injured, the 33-year-old has decided to pursue a tune-up fight in the meantime.

Now with Dubois unable to fill the void, the New Zealander will instead take to the ring against Fabio Wardley (19-0-1,18 KO’s) at the O2 Arena on October 25. 

Speaking on the bout, Frank Warren feels the pair's styles guarantee fireworks when they meet in Autumn.

"Neither Joe or Fabio wanted to wait about and protect their positions, and credit to them both for this," Warren stated.

"I believe this is a genuine even-money fight with a mesh of styles that I am sure will be eye-catching and highly crowd-pleasing.

"We promised to keep firing up this heavyweight division and we intend to keep all the contenders jockeying for position until the time come to fight for the ultimate prize."
