Deontay Wilder lists four advantages he has over Oleksandr Usyk

Former WBC world heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (44-4-1, 43 KOs) believes he boasts significant advantages over Oleksandr Usyk ahead of their proposed fight this year.

The 40-year-old American and 38-year-old Ukrainian are currently in talks to stage a fight in either April or May in America, according to Usyk’s long-term manager, Egis Klimas.

The two-time undisputed heavyweight champion, Usyk, has stated that he intends to remain in the sport for another two years.

Having defeated Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury twice, Usyk is looking to add Wilder's name to his CV so he can walk away from sport with all the biggest names ticked off his list.

He was last seen destroying Daniel Dubois in London in just five rounds in July 2025.

Wilder, meanwhile, has not fought since his seventh-round finish over unheralded heavyweight Tyrrell Herndon this past June, which followed back-to-back defeats against Zhilei Zhang and Joseph Parker.

Parker pummelled the former world champion through 12 rounds of one-sided action, while the American’s loss to Zhang came via a devastating fifth-round stoppage.

'The Bronze Bomber' remains convinced that he has the beating of Usyk, however, and told Bloody Elbow that his right hand, speed, height and athleticism could prove decisive when they eventually lock horns.

He said, “I would think that [my right hand] would be the main recipe of it. I’m not going to give away too much on this interview because people are looking and I don’t want nothing to be heard.

“They might send something back and try to correct certain things, but I will keep it basic. I do have the speed and the height and the athleticism, which are three things that give me an advantage.”
