Dave Allen discusses plans to finish his career on a UK tour and the British title

After his one-sided beatdown from Filip Hrgovic at the weekend, May 16, Dave Allen (25-9-2, 20 KOs) is now planning towards the end of his fighting career.

Post-fight, he talked about having around four fights left before he hangs up his gloves. Having been mostly unsuccessful when competing against world-level opponents, such as Hrgovic, Arslanbek Makhmudov, Tony Yoka, David Price, it appears the 34-year-old from Doncaster is now aiming to compete down at domestic level.

'The White Rhino revealed, "People keep saying, ‘well win the British title now’, it’s not that easy, I’ve already lost to Frazer Clarke; won some, lost some at that level; I said to Eddie [Hearn] let’s do a tour of the country and maybe culminate with the British title at the end of it, maybe.

"Touring the UK now, six and eight rounders, hopefully easy jobs and hopefully can culminate in boxing for the British title, maybe."

Allen was stopped in six rounds by Frazer Clarke in 2023 in a fight that was littered with low blows from 'Big Fraze', deducted two points in the sixth round by referee Mark Lyson. Allen retired after that torrid round with a perforated eardrum.

Clarke went on to challenge for the British heavyweight title in his next fight against Fabio Wardley, which ended in a draw.

Dave added, "I think I'm probably six or seven years past my best. I've had all these great nights and I'm a bit too old in the tooth now. But, yeah, Richard Riakporhe, [Jeamie] TKV, Frazer Clarke are very, very, very good fighters. I don't think they are good as Filip Hrgovic, but they're still very, very good."

Richard Riakporhe is the currently British heavyweight champion, having defeated Jeamie TKV in April via fifth-round KO.

Riakporhe would look like a very difficult, but winnable fight for Allen. However, it's unlikely 'The Midnight Train' will still be in possession of the Lonsdale belt by the time Dave is looking to challenge for it.

Prior to TKV and 'RR's' reigns, David Adeleye was the titleholder, an opponent that Allen called out last year when planning to challenge for the British belt at some point.

When viewing the list of recent British heavyweight champions, there are a few names that Allen would have fared well against, such as Jeamie TKV, David Adeleye, Joe Joyce, Hughie Fury, Sam Sexton, meaning that the likeable fighter could realistically win the historic belt.

However, the likes of Fabio Wardley, Daniel Dubois and Anthony Joshua would have been lop-sided matches.
