Canelo on Floyd Mayweather Jr: "I would definitely beat him today"

Canelo foresees discusses Mayweather rematch, Saunders fight, and future fight

World Boxing Council super middle champion Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez will face WBO champion from Britain Billy Joe Saunders on May 8 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Undefeated Saunders, 31 from Hatfield, England, has declared he is the best fighter Canelo has faced since Floyd Mayweather, who defeated the Mexican by decision in 2013. It remains the 30-year-old's sole loss in his 58-fight career.

“We will see on May 8 if he is the best opponent I have faced. He is a fighter who moves a lot, he is left-handed, with experience. He is supposed to be one of the most difficult opponents, but we’ll see that on fight night,” mused Canelo in an interview with Univision.

Regarding Saúl’s loss to Mayweather, he himself commented: “I would definitely beat him today. It would be a very different fight. I am a more mature fighter. I have more experience and I learned a lot. That loss left me a lot. After losing I promised to become the best and I achieved it. At that moment the lose hurt me a lot because I wanted to win, but only God knows why he does the things he does, ”said Canelo.

If Canelo beats and defeats Saunders, he will potentially fight IBF World Champion Caleb Plant in September.
