Caleb Plant addresses Canelo Alvarez links and plans for future after Caleb Truax victory

Caleb Plant defeated Caleb Truax in dominant unanimous decision victory on FOX on Saturday night

Undefeated middleweight Caleb Plant revealed that his hand injury shouldn't halt his progress at a potential shot at the winner of the clash between Canelo Alvarez and Billy Joe Saunders later in the year.

The American defeated Caleb Truax in a dominant display by unanimous decision on the judges scorecards, but appeared to have severe pain in his hand during the latter stages of the contest.

However despite appearing to rule out appearing again in the immediate future, Plant believes that he should be fit for another fight later in the year, with his title being the only belt that Canelo would not own, should he come through both fights planned for this year.

He said in the post fight press conference: “I’m not sure [about surgery], I’ve gotta sit down and get it checked out, and we’ll see. But as of now, I’m not sure. I don’t think it’ll be anything crazy or hinder me, so I just have to get it checked out.”

When asked about his thoughts on the super middleweight unification clash between Canelo and Saunders, he revealed his focus remained on his own career and he would take on whatever challenge that could face him in the future.

“I’m not sure, that’s for them to figure out. I’m worried about me and my team and what I have going on. And that’s their business, so when the bell rings, that’s for them to get in there, figure out and settle their differences. So, I don’t know.”

“Champions can adjust and get through anything, so it was just about staying focused and, you know, staying disciplined and sticking to the game plan and, like I said, it maybe hindered me here and there. But I still feel like I used it well and worked through it well, and I got a dominant victory, a shutout on all the cards.”

Reports have suggested that a fight between Canelo Alvarez and Billy Joe Saunders has all been finalised to take place in May, which could hold the key for the winner to face Plant in the latter stages of 2021.
