Burkina Faso boxing legend Dramane “Boum-boum” Nabaloum has sadly passed away

The World Boxing Council (WBC) and the African Boxing Union (ABU) are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Nabaloum Dramane, affectionately known in the boxing world as “Boum-boum”.

Ivory Coast-born boxer Nabaloum “Boum-boum” Dramane (29-3-3, 20 KOs) was an iconic figure and one of Burkina Faso’s most beloved athletes. His legacy in the ring was vast, characterised by his bravery, technical skill, and a charisma that made him a national idol.

Throughout his successful career, he reigned for many years as the African Champion (ABU) and reached the pinnacle of international success by capturing the prestigious WBC International title, proudly representing his nation on major stages.

From Ouagadougou, Burkino Faso, he boxed in 205 rounds over 35 bouts, losing just three times during a career that spanned two centuries between 1992-2004. His KO ratio of 68.97% is a result of scoring 20 knockouts in 29 victories.

Dramane won the African featherweight title in 1994 and defended twice more, winning three national championship contests in just over a year.

Nabaloum also won the WBC International featherweight strap in 1996 and also defended that belt twice, a title that's currently in the hands of Michael Conlan.

WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán joins the African nation in mourning, sending his deepest condolences to Dramane’s family and highlighting his integrity as a champion.

Furthermore, the President of the African Boxing Union, Houcine Houichi, lamented the loss of a warrior who was a fundamental pillar for the growth and recognition of boxing across the African continent.
