Ben Davison hints at high risk clash for Moses Itauma

Itauma vs Usyk in 2026?

Moses Itauma (13-0, 11 KO’s) is shaping up to be a once-in-a-generation heavyweight prospect. 

The rising heavyweight star has ascended the ranks in a fashion that's not been seen since a young ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson terrorised the heavyweight scene in the 90s. 

His devastating power, ruthless finishing ability, and unshakeable resolve have captured the eyes of the boxing world, with many top fighters and trainers touting him as the future of the heavyweight division. 

However,  currently leading the line is Oleksandr Usyk (24-0, 15 KO's), and the undefeated Ukrainian has proven himself to be a very hard man to beat. 

Usyk will go down as an all-time great, and understandably, many are concerned that Itauma is still too fresh to take on -undeniably - the best heavyweight of this generation. 

However, Usyk is no spring chicken, approaching 40, his time in the ring is surely running short, and Itauma's trainer, Ben Davison, wonders if fighting the undisputed star is too good an opportunity to pass up on. 

“How many more chances are you going to get to box, potentially, some will say in 20 years time — he has an argument as the best heavyweight ever?” Davison stated on the Toe2Toe podcast. 

“How many times are you going to get the chance to do that in your career? It might be earlier than you would want it to be in a perfect scenario, but I just think, what are you in it for?”

Davison went on to claim that perhaps taking the risk is the best option for Itauma despite it putting his undefeated status in jeopardy. 

It makes sense, even if the 20-year-old were to lose, it wouldn’t damage his credibility, given that he would lose his zero to an all-time great.

“When boxing fans complain and argue that people are too protected, cherry picking, protect the ‘0’ — and at the same time we’re saying we’d be willing to take a risk, and people complain about that.”
