Manny Pacquiao ‘still dangerous’ at 46 and will become world champion again, believes Amir Khan

Former world champion and sparring partner to Manny Pacquiao, Amir Khan has had his say on the Filipino legend's fight with WBC world welterweight champion Mario Barrios this Saturday night, July 19, in Las Vegas.

The 38-year-old Bolton boxer told Genting Casinos, “He's got a great opportunity to win this fight. Barrios is one of the weakest champions, in my opinion, but I know how hard Barrios has worked, so he deserves it more than anyone.

“There will be a lot of moving in this fight, there'll be a lot of boxing. It'll be more boxing. It won't be a fight. It'll be more boxing and skilful and tactical.

“I think we’ll see a version of Manny that’s slower, less work rate, and less punches, but the power's gonna be there. I think it's still got that power and he's got them sharpshooting shots, so he’s still dangerous and will have enough to win.”

Pacquiao stated in the final presser on July 16 that he loves to go toe-to-toe and Barrios replied that he's ready for a war, so it remains to be seen if Khan's vision of a skilful, tactical boxing fight comes true.

Khan also added, “No, it’s not true that Manny thinks Floyd [Mayweather] is scared to fight him, because I think Floyd coming back has looked a lot better than Manny when he's been doing the exhibitions.

“You can't fault Floyd. Had a fantastic career, one of the best out there, and you look at the names on the list, and he fought a lot of them at the peak of his career like the Cottos and stuff like that/ In my opinion. Mayweather’s resume is a bit better than Manny's.”
