Ali Akhmedov vs Asemahle Wellem announced for the IBO World light-heavyweight title

July 25: Ali Akhmedov vs Asemahle Wellem

Ali Akhmedov (25-2, 17 KOs) and Asemahle Wellem (11-2-1, 6 KOs) will clash for the vacant IBO World light-heavyweight title on July 25, it has been announced.

Kazakhstan's Akhmedov has challenged for the IBO world title before, back in 2020 at super-middleweight against Carlos Gongora, losing with just one minute to go in the contest.His only other defeat came frm Maciej Sulecki last year when challenging for the WBC Silver super-middleweight belt, once again losing in the last round. The 30-year-old Kazakh has since won both bouts at light-heavyweight.

He has won IBF North American, NABF, WBC Silver, WBC Youth and WBC International titles during his 10-year pro career.

'The Predator' is former South African super-middleweight champion and current holder of the WBO Africa light-heavyweight belt. The 25-year-old had a blip during 2024, unable to win any of his three fights that year, but has since bounced back with four wins in a row.
