Adam Azim next fight could be world title shot on BBC

Adam Azim has the worldtitle shots pending following his three-round demolition of Steve Claggett last month

The victory earned the 15-0 (12 KOs)super-lightweight a No.4 ranking with the IBF, and a likely shot at the title that will be contested between Lindolfo Delgado and Arthur Biyarslanov. The vacant belt will be on the line for the contest between Delgado and Biyarslanov that should take place this summer, with Adam Azim lining up the winner.

The 24-year-old 'Assassin' has struggled for activity of late, fighting only twice in 2025 before an injury cancelled his January date with Gustavo Lemos. Should Azim have competed in the contest against Lemos and been victorious, his BOXXER promoter Ben Shalom believes he would now be fighting for the vacant title.

“If he'd have fought on January 31, he'd be fighting for a world title next,” Shalom told BoxingScene. “That's just how it works, but it is what it is. I'm excited, I think it's going to be a big, big next fight and hopefully it'll be that world title.”

Shalom recently signed a multi-fight deal with streaming service DAZN. Despite this, their broadcast deal with BBC will still continue.

“I think the plan for us is that we want Adam's next fight to be on the BBC,” said Shalom.

Azim can't ever be mentioned without his 140lbs rival Dalton Smith lso being named. 'Thunder' Smith has the WBC World title at super-lightweight and the plan is to line up the British rivals once they both have world titles around their waists.

Shalom now thinks this sicenario is within touching distance after years of back-and-forths.

“We want to make sure in the next two fights we can see that grudge match that everyone wants to see,” Shalom said. “I want that to be the biggest fight possible, I want it to be a pay-per-view fight, I want it to be the fight that defines Adam's early career. So yeah, let's see, next couple of fights I want Dalton Smith to be one of them.”

An Azim-Smith super-fight would land on DAZN, who Matchroom Boxing are partnered with.

Reports that the BOXXER deal with DAZN only spanned fone fight - the rematch between Troy Williamson and Callum Simpson on August 8 - but Shalom revealed that is not the case.

“I don't want to embarrass anyone but it's a proper deal for us and I'm so excited to get back to the big nights, the big fights, the big events regularly for a long period,” he said. “So yeah, I'm really happy about it.”

Shalom further added details on the BBC relationship, “Look, it's early days with the BBC, we've not built it for nothing. We've invested a lot into it and that's why it was so important that this deal didn't cut across the BBC. So yeah, it's another deal that we are incredibly proud of, a partnership that we want to have for a long time.”
