Zhilei Zhang calls out Moses Itauma for December showdown

Zhilei Zhang (27-3-1, 22 KO’s) is hoping to be the next man to take on the young and fast-rising Moses Itauma (13-0, 11 KO’s).

The 21-year-old is set to return to the boxing ring on December 13, though his opponent has yet to be confirmed.

Not without a lack of effort from Queensbury promotions either, with the likes of Filip Hrgovic and Jermaine Franklin both being approached for the Christmas-time showdown.

However, it may be yet another veteran of the heavyweight division who steps in and challenges the hard-hitting phenom.

Zhilei Zhang has revealed his interest in testing Itauma, urging the youngster to send a contract his way.

“Moses Itauma is a great fighter,” the Chinese fighter stated, as per TalkSport.

“I watched a couple of his fights and he knocked out Dillian Whyte in one round.

"Fantastic, but for the time being, right now, we haven’t received anything from Itauma in terms of fighting him.”

“If he wants to fight me, I want to see that contract, I will sign it.”

There have been plenty of names thrown into the Itauma hat, including former world champion Joseph Parker.

The New Zealander will first face Fabio Wardley in October, with a win putting him in the firing line for a chance to knock Oleksandr Usyk off his undisputed perch.

However, with Usyk currently recovering from a back injury, Parker could take the opportunity to stay warm against the young Briton.

Speaking on his fighters' options, Frank Warren has stated that the opponent will be released soon.

"Everyone is jostling for position so we are trying to make the right matches for Moses at the right time,” he said.

"I had one manager asking for $3.5 million for the fight, which is totally nuts. What planet are these people on?

“But Moses will get his time and if he wins a world title then they will be queuing up to fight him.

“That’s how it works and I’d rather it be my problem than somebody else’s.”
