Yordenis Ugas vs Omar Figueroa Jr report

Yordenis Ugas comprehensively defeated Omar Figueroa Jr by a unanimous decision.
This was men against boys. Both literally and figuratively.
To say that Ugas prevailed because he was the bigger man would be a disservice to him. Even though Ugas physically imposed himself on Figueroa, it must be said how much more technically superior he was throughout the contest as he intelligently fought on the back-foot and effectively countered the shoddy efforts of Figueroa.
From round one, it was clear to see the size disparity between the two men. Whilst Ugas was a fit and ripped welterweight, Figueroa looked like a bloated lightweight.
Figueroa marched towards his Cuban foe and tried to overwhelm him with a high work-rate. He was swiftly punished when throwing a lazy jab, as Ugas countered with a beautifully timed straight right cross that sent Figueroa staggering back towards the ropes, which the referee counted as a knockdown.
Figueroa’s challenge threatened to collapse as Ugas connected with an overhand right before the conclusion of the first round.
Before round two, Figueroa looked to the heavens and wore the expression of a man that knew that he would need divine intervention to salvage anything from this bout.
Panterita was brave but and demonstrated the heart of a fighter. Unfortunately, he has never had the discipline of one. The man from LA continued to look out of his depth, as Ugas wobbled him numerous times with counter punches and despite harshly docked a point in round five, Ugas ran away with the unanimous victory, opening doors for a potential title fight.
The only criticism of Ugas was his obsession with trying to land the perfect shot and the lack of a clinical edge to end a contest against an opponent that was conspicuously inferior to himself. This could cost him in closer contests, where he may be at the mercy of the judge’s decision.
