Reigning WBC super bantamweight champion Yamileth “Yeimi” Mercado (16-2, 5KOs) reports that she is ready to defend her crown for the first time on February 6 in a fight that promises to be a war against Alejandra “Rockera” Guzmán (11-1-2, 5KOs) in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico.

Mexican Mercado, who has shared camp with world champions Miguel Berchelt and Juan Francisco Estrada in Los Mochis, and even sparred with the pair of male world champions.

The world champion comes into the contest from knocking out Irasema Rayas in four rounds, in a fight in which she suffered a broken nose after an accidental clash of heads. She overcome this and accomplished a grueling camp in Los Mochis.

She has waited a long time for this moment, due to various situations during the pandemic and her injury, this defense has been postponed. However, the young 22-year-old is ready to show why she is the best in the 122-pound division, and what better way to do it by facing fellow Mexican, Julissa Alejandra Guzmán, who hasn't lost since her debut fight in 2015. Currently riding on a seven-fight winning streak, the 24-year-old challenger hasn't lost a fight in her last 13 contests, going unbeaten for over five years now.

Defending champion Yamileth assured fans that she has completed a great preparation and won't be losing her green and gold belt, which she won in November 2019, on her second attempt.

Alejandra thanked the WBC for her opportunity to contest the title, and added that she doesn't feel like the underdog and is convinced she'll be taking the title home.

Guillermo Brito from Zanfer promotions says the clash will be on February 6 in Hermosillo, Sonora, and promises it'll be a fight to remember.

The undercard is yet to be announced. The fight is promoted by Zanfer and 2M Promotions, to be broadcasted by TV Azteca.
