The pair's rivalry stretches back to amateur days and now finally they will once again clash on June 28 as professionals with “Yeimi” Mercado set to defend her WBC International super bantamweight Championship.
Yamileth “Yeimi” Mercado (13-2-0, 4 ko’s) will make the first defense of the crown, against Karina “Bella” Fernandez (12-3-1, 3 ko’s), at the Rodrigo M. Quevedo gym in the city of Chihuahua, in one of the main fights that will present 2M Promotions of Mauricio Madero, with broadcast by Fox Sports Latin America.
At a press conference, Fernandez said she’s completed one of the best preparations of her career, because she knows the great challenge she faces.
“We had a very complete preparation together with world champions. We worked hard in in Mexico City for about 8 weeks away from my family, I do not want to talk much here because I want to demonstrate everything in the ring, I will get the victory and I know that I have a great rival in front of me.”
Mercado pointedly stressed: “I am very happy to introduce myself here in Chihuahua. I was preparing in Hermosillo, Sonora, guided by Alfredo Caballero and I had an excellent preparation to make the first defense of my title.”
