Vasiliy Lomachenko awarded Boxer of the Month by WBC

Vasiliy Lomachenko was awarded WBC Boxer of the Month award for September after his unanimous points win over World Boxing Council's super-lightweight mandatory challenger Luke Campbell last month.

The Ukrainian superstar was presented with quite the test from British challenger Luke Campbell, who had a significant size and reach advantage, but after 12 rounds, it was the Pound-for-Pound Picasso who prevailed, scoring a unanimous decision (119-108 twice and 118-109) over Campbell to retain his WBA and WBO lightweight titles and pick up the vacant WBC title in front of a sold-out crowd at the O2 Arena in London.

The three-weight champion managed to knock down two-time world title contender Campbell in the 11th round but the Olympic gold medallist battled bravely to hear the final bell.

'Hi-Tech' now wants to become the undisputed champion by facing IBF titlist Richard Commey next.

Juan Francisco Estrada was given an honorary mention for his victory over Dewayne Beamon, successfully defending his WBC super-flyweight title with a ninth-round knockout.
