Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua: Broadcaster's ESPN and DAZN close to global TV rights deal, BT and Sky touted in UK

All four media outlets reported to be part of broadcasting Fury vs Joshua heavyweight clash, Eddie Hearn confirms 'deal is close'

Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has reported that the broadcasting issue for the clash between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua has nearly been resolved, with DAZN and ESPN set to share global TV rights for the event, while Sky Sports and BT Sport will share the pay-per-view package in the UK.

Tyson Fury is represented by ESPN and BT Sport globally for the live coverage of his fights, while Anthony Joshua has a contract with DAZN and Sky Sports for broadcasting rights.

However, Hearn believes that a deal is closing in for the fight to be broadcast on all four platforms to maximise the audience, which could emulate the broadcasting model that was adopted for the super fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.

Hearn said: "I don’t think it will be difficult. There’s a solution for everybody.

“The two broadcast issues are DAZN and ESPN in America – AJ has a matching rights deal with DAZN and Fury has an exclusive deal with ESPN. When you flip that in the UK, AJ has an exclusive deal with Sky and Fury has matching rights with BT.

“Is there a deal where all four of those parties can carry broadcast of the fight? Yeah, I believe there is. I can’t speak on behalf of Sky, but I’m not sure they would have an issue with saying to the public, ‘You can watch on Sky or BT.’

“When it’s a fight of this magnitude, I don’t think anyone is looking to be obstructive.”

The venue seemed to be another key stumbling block in agreeing a fight deal for the fight, with the UK unable to accomodate any fans due to the lockdown rules posed by the pandemic.

However a venue has reportedly been sealed and a deal is very close to being agreed.
