Tyler Denny targets two major title fights next year

Denny wants his title back and names another belt he's eyeing up

A busy fighter is a dangerous fighter, and after months of waiting, Tyler Denny  is set to unleash his pent-up energy after months of training when he steps back into the ring on December 5th.

The Rowley Regis southpaw, 34, is swapping the bright lights of big arena and stadium shows for a homecoming at the Dudley Town Hall, headlining BCB Promotions’ ‘Infiltrate’, facing the experienced and well regarded Grant Dennis.

Returning to the Hall for the first time since 2016 Denny knows that only a convincing win will do in their scheduled eight rounder.

“I didn’t want to be waiting round; I was sick of it,” said Denny. “When you train constantly, it helps a lot when you have a fight date to work towards, and it gives you that bit of meaning to the work you are doing. I’m buzzing that I get to box so close to home, just 10 minutes down the road, and to be fighting someone like Grant, who I know will come and have a proper go. Everyone in the sport knows he is much better than his record, and there have been a couple of times in the past we nearly boxed back when I was down to go on Ultimate BOXXER, and I’ve seen him fight for titles; it should be a good fight for the fans to watch.”

In May, Denny easily outpointed Elvis Ahorgah, dropping the flamboyant Ghanaian in the seventh round in front of a sold-out BP Pulse Live Arena. It was the perfect bounce back from losing his European title and should have propelled him back into a big fight, but in what has been a complicated few months, the call didn’t come. Not one to sit around, Denny and coach Paul Mann went to Italy to spar IBO Middleweight champion Etinosa Oliha, and at the BCB gym in Wednesbury, he sparred top prospects Aaron Bowen and Elliot Whale.

“After that fight, getting the win on a big show, I wanted to push on, and I performed well, so the inactivity since then has been a bit frustrating, but Errol has come through for me with this one. Going over to Italy for sparring was good; I had a really decent few days there, and then I've been back over to Tenerife training. Staying active and keeping learning is what I want to be doing, and if you are going to train as hard as I do, you want to fight.”

Denny is entering his 10th year as a professional boxer and has compiled an impressive record, winning the Midlands Area, English, and European titles along the way, and is looking to add a few more belts to the already stacked display case.

“I’ve made it clear I am open to any big opportunity after this fight. BOXXER are now on the BBC, so there will be shows there, but I also like the George Liddard fight for the British or maybe getting my European title back. I want the biggest fights on the biggest stage. I’m 34, but there is still plenty left, and I just want to make the most out of my boxing career.”

The undercard sees the professional debut of Plymouth’s Brandon Fells as well as light heavyweight Ben Collins’s first six-rounder and the unbeaten duo of Levi Vaughan and Mia Holland
