Thabiso Mchunu set for WBC Silver cruiserweight defence to Evgeny Tishchenko on March 27

“The Rock” cruises to Russia for WBC Silver defence 

South African Thabiso “The Rock” Mchunu (22-5-0, 13 KOs), the Silver Cruiserweight Champion of the World Boxing Council, will face undefeated Russian powerhouse Evgeny Tishchenko (8-0, 6KOs) on March 27 at the RCC Boxing Academy in Ekaterinburg, Russia.

In addition to the Silver title at stake, the fight will be eliminatory to have the right to challenge the champion Ilunga Makabu next.

Mchunu, who won the WBC Silver title by defeating Denis Lebedev of Russia and is ranked number 1 on the body’s ratings, has fought quality rivals such as Eddie Chambers, Olanrewaju Duradola, Ilunga Makabu, Oleksandr Usyk and Thomas Oosthuizen.

Tishchenko, undefeated as a professional in eight bouts, has extensive experience as an amateur fighter. He won gold medals at the 2016 Olympics, the 2015 World Championships, and the 2015 and 2017 European Championships. In addition to being a boxer, he has a degree in physical education and works as a policeman in St. Petersburg.

This is his third title shot, having previously won WBO Inter-Continental and European titles. He has halted his last four opponents.
