Butler and Akhmedov in triple title tilts

Eye of the Tiger Management is organizing a fight night in Cuernavaca, Mexico, where two NABF titles will be on the line this Friday, January 29.

The gala will feature middleweight Steven Butler and light-middleweight Sadriddin Akhmedov, two stars of the company.

 

Steven Butler vs José de Jesús Macías

Steven Butler (28-2-1, 24 KO) will face José de Jesús Macías (27-10-3, 13 KO) for the vacant North American Boxing Federation (NABF) middleweight title, along with the NABA and WBC Francophone belts too.

25-year-old 'BANG BANG' Butler, known so for his frightening KO ratio, with 24 knockouts from 28 victories, has held the WBC Francophone belt before in 2018. The NABF title he is gunning for was once held by Kelly Pavlik and Thomas Hearns. He once challenged unsuccessfully for the NABA title at super-welterweight, losing to Brandon Cook in 2017, so winning this will right a wring for him in his career.

The Montreal man comes into the contest following a loss to Ryota Murata when challenging for the Japanese champion's WBA world middleweight honours.

 

Sadriddin Akhmedov vs Stephen Danyo

For his part, Kazakh KO king Sadriddin Akhmedov (11-0, 10 KO) will try to keep his perfect record intact against Netherlands' Stephen Danyo (17-3-3, 6 KO) for the NABF super-welterweight title. The WBC Francophone and WBA Continental belts are also on the line.

Dutchman Danyo, known as 'The Chosen One', won the WBA strap in his last fight with Brit boxer Navid Mansouri in his home city of Rotterdam, way back in November 2019, 14 months ago now. However, he has only been victorious in half of his last six bouts.

Based in Montreal, the Kazakh known as 'Soldier of Q' has already won WBC Youth and WBC Asian Boxing Council titles at 154-pounds and now aims to scoop up three new titles in one fight, which will take his tally to five titles in 12 fights, should he prevail.

Only Indonesian John Ruba has been able to make it to the final bell when they clashed for the WBC Asian Boxing Council belt in March 2019. Akhmedov didn't get the KO like he is used to but he did win every round on two of the three judges scorecards, with the third judge scoring the contest 99-91.

Half of his victims that have been stopped were blown away in the first round, but his previous two contests went to round seven.

 

Undercard

Unbeaten Canadian Leila Beaudoin (3-0, 1KO) competes in her first six-rounder at lightweight against 30-year-old Mexican title contender Maria Guadalupe Esquivel Zamora (4-16-1).

Canadian national amateur champion Christopher Guerrero makes his pro debut against Mexican Armando Morales Gutierrez (1-1, 1KO) over four-rounds.
