Ryan Garcia wins WBC Silver belt with a quick KO

Ryan Garcia (19-0, 16 KOs) knocked out Romero Duno (21-2, 16 KOs) in the first round of their scheduled 10-round lightweight bout.

Duno was supposed to provide the toughest test of the 21-year-old Garcia’s career on the Canelo Alvarez vs Sergey Kovalev undercard at MGM Grand Garden Arena, but instead, the Californian sensation knocked down the Filipino with a blisteringly fast, perfectly timed right hand to the temple.

Duno bravely attempted to get up, but referee Tony Weeks wisely and timely stopped their fight at just 1:38 into the first round.

It was a devastating KO, with Duno crumpled to the canvas in a hurtful fashion, his limbs rendered useless. The speed of Garcia was too much for the Californian-based Filipino fighter.

Golden Boy Promotions' newest signing, Garcia of Victorville, California, won the vacant WBC Silver lightweight title with his 16th KO in 19 contests.

Duno’s only previous loss was an eight-round, unanimous-decision defeat to Mikhail Alexeev (12-1, 4 KOs) in May 2016.
