Tonight is the WBC interim lightweight clash between undefeated Ryan Garcia and Hull's Luke Campbell from California in the opening boxing show of the year.

Garcia faces a massive step-up against an experienced Campbell who fought extremely well against Vasyl Lomachenko, but is confident that his tlent can be displayed on Saturday night.

Main Event

Ryan Garcia vs Luke Campbell
interim WBA world lightweight title

A good opening round from Garcia, who landed a good straight right early on to earn the attention of the Briton who joined in settling and finding his feet in the early stages, as the American looked to show his quick hands and solid jab early on.

Garcia had Campbell backed up onto the ropes in the second reaching out well with leading left jab, but then in all of a sudden Campbell dropped Garcia with a sharp left hook that dropped the American in a shocking twist during the second ho was certainly now aware of the threat of the British fighter.

Campbell continued to trade well despite Garcia's aggression and speed in the third but Garcia appeared to have his confidence and zip back in his work.

A hard right hand appeared to rock the seasoned amateur as the young Garcia tried to work his way into the controlling position in the fight, but Campbell continued to land his own shots in th exchanges and make it a very even contest. His quick hands continued as he tried to prevail and caught Campbell right on the bell which ended the round briskly and luckily for the British warrior.

The Briton used his short sharp shots to catch Garcia as he approached, with top timing but both fighters continued to try and land power punches certainly setting the fight up for further knockdown and huge landed shots.

Another huge flurry for Garcia at the start of the round as he appeared to damage the eye of Campbell with some fast power shots, which appeared to rock him but he worked his way back into the round.

Campbell has gone down from a body shot, which took Campbell out and he could not make the count after having the wind brutally taken out of him.

Ryan Garcia stops Luke Campbell in the seventh round to earn the WBC interim title and moved to 21-0.

 

Undercard

Sean Garcia vs Rene Marquez (lightweight)

Garcia started well using his stiff shots knowing well that is just a four round contest, and begun well with the jab to try and set up the huge right hook.

Marquez came in and tried forcing the narrative and landed a big right in the middle stage of the second round, but Garcia largely controlled the exchanges going into the third.

The fighters got into lively exchanges in the final round as both fighters tried to gain their foothold on the scorecards, with Marquez's aggressive work seeming to bully Garcia and rough up his young opponent.

Sean Garcia gets the majority decision victory over Rene Marquez with scorecards at 39-37,39-37, and 38-38.

 

Raul Curiel vs Ramses Agaton (Middleweight)

Raul Curiel scored an early knockdown with a solid left body shot to Ramses Agaton in the opening round, to pile on the early pressure and he continued to follow up with some neat shots and head movement to back Agaton into the ropes in the early stages.

The Cougar continued pounce on his opponent and smashed some crunching shots throughout, causing visible damage to the eye of Agaton and eventually resulting in the towel coming in from the Agaton corner who could not sustain any more damage.

Raul Curiel went to 9-0 professionally as he scored a second round retirement victory over Ramses Agaton at middleweight.

 

Felix Alvarado vs DeeJay Kriel (IBF world light-flyweight title)

Alvarado started the fight the aggressor and looked the supremely more powerful fighter in the opening stages, landing the better opening shots but Kriel certainly did not look overruled and boxed composed on the inside.

The South-African Kriel then took a huge left that landed him on the canvas in the second as Alvarado continued to dominate landing some big other shots of note as Krie continued to struggle to get off the ropes with the power and constant pressure of Alvarado.

Some explosive power on display from Felix Alvarado as he continues to push Kriel onto the ropes not allowing him to get into the clinch or pivot away from the concerted pressure.

A big left hook again from Alvarado as he scores another knockdown of DeeJay Kriel who cannot cope at all with the sheer power and size difference of Alvarado who continued to dominate the battle between the fighters.

Two better rounds for Kriel in the fifth and sixth who continued to battle away and try to find his own rhythm despite the early punishment and staking a good claim to win the rounds with some better work of his own and forcing himself off of the ropes.

Round Nine proved a damaging round for Kriel who took alot of damage against the advancing Alvarado who was smashing huge power punches into Kriel right until the final bell, cutting the nose of the South African and being saved by the final stanza of the round.

The tenth took a similar pattern with Alvarado landing more big shots with several landing onto Kriel, as the referee continued to watch inquisitevely but still Kriel tried to throw back some limp hooks that barely broke the wind of the advancing Alvarado.

The refereee jumped in later in the tenth as a smashing right hand appeared to knock Kriel senseless on the ropes as the referee flew in and ended the contest and the battering that Kriel receieved despite his heart and determination from the opening bell.

Felix Alvarado defeats DeeJay Kriel via tenth round stoppage to claim the IBF Junior Flyweight Title.

 

Co-Main Event

Rene Alvarado vs Roger Gutierrez
WBA world super-featherweight title

The fight started slowly in the opening stages, but exploded into life at the end as both fighters tried to land some big power shots towards the final bell.

Alvarado countered well at the start of the second, landing an early flush right hand in the seemingly noticeable shot of a chess match style second round where both fighters continued to feel their way into the contest.

Gutierrez landed a huge right uppercut on Alvarado to score a knockdown at the start of the third before another followed with a superb right once again to assert his dominance and status as a real world title challenger.

Alvarado got back into the fight and bloodied and bruised the face of his slowing opponent in the sixth, landing some straight clean shots that appeared to begin to damage Gutierrez who continued to lean in and use his head to evade any big power shots. He continued to pile on the pressure landing some top right hands in the latter stanzas of the round.

Both fighters continued to trade with Gutierrez staying in the contest despite his cut and with the aggressive Alvarado continuing to step it up ahead of the championship rounds.

A short left hook knocks Alvarado to the canvas in the championship round and provides another knockdown in a superb and explosive contest.

Roger Gutierrez claims the WBA world super featherweight belt with unanimous decision victory over Rene Alvarado.
