Ryan Garcia's father backs him to stop Gervonta Davis 'within two rounds' ahead of potential lightweight clash

Ryan Garcia could face Gervonta Davis despite mandatory status with Devin Haney's WBC lightweight belt

Ryan Garcia's father Henry Garcia has backed the young lightweight to stop Gervonta Davis to knock out Floyd Mayweather's protege Gervonta Davis within two rounds ahead of a potential blokcbuster lightweight clash.

The American defeated Luke Campbell last time out to gain the WBC Silver lightweight title and earn the mandatory shot at Devin Haney.

However, Garcia was extremely vocal in calling out Davis after the fight with Campbell, and has revealed that he is going to push for that fight despite holding the route to world title glory via Haney in the current mandatory spot.

Henry Garcia revealed that he believes his son's prediction can certainly be correct, but has previously warned his son that he must stay focussed on the task in hand in order to remain undefeated against the top opponents.

He told Pro Boxing Fans: "It’s building up, let’s put it that way and it is going to happen, We do not want to have people wait so long, wait years and years like Pacquiao and Mayweather.

“If you want to see a good fight, you’re going to see a good fight. Ryan is now a young man, I was worried when he had mentioned it when he was 19 years old.

“I said ‘Ryan, I would recommend you waiting’, but now that he’s 22, I have all the confidence in the world that Ryan is going to put on an excellent performance and become victorious.”

“But for some reason Ryan’s got that in his mind, all he needs is two rounds so hey, I’m with him on that.”

When asked about the current lightweight situation dominated by 'The Four Kings' in Davis, Haney, Garcia and Teofimo Lopez, he revealed that he believes his son is the best, but does not discredit the superb work of the other contenders for division supremacy.

“I give credit to everybody, I give credit to Teofimo, although he shouldn’t say that he’s the king of Lightweights,” Garcia added.

“I know he beat Lomachenko, but think about it, Lomachenko is actually a 130 pounder, he’s a Junior Lightweight, he’s not a true Lightweight.

“A true Lightweight rehydrates to 143, 144 easily, almost to Welterweight, so there’s no way a Junior Lightweight can rehydrate to a Junior Welterweight or a Welterweight actually.
