Reymart Gaballo wins interim WBC title

On Saturday, December 19, unbeaten Philippine Reymart Gaballo (24-0, 20KOs) prevailed over the Puerto Rican Emmanuel Rodríguez (19-2, 12KOs), to win the interim bantamweight title of the World Boxing Council, at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.

Undefeated Gaballo, 24 from General Santos City, Philippines, won by split decision to become mandatory challenger to WBO World bantamweight champion John Riel Casimero (30-4, 21KOs), who has held the title since April 2019. The fellow Filipino, 31 from Ormoc City, has defended the title successfully three times already since winning it 20 months ago.

Gaballo is known as the 'Assassin' for his frightening 83% KO ratio. This is the second time he has won a version of the world title at bantamweight. In 2018, he defeated American Stephon Young on points to win the WBA interim belt. He is currently highly ranked as WBA #1; WBO #13; and this latest triumph will see him enter the top 15 with the World Boxing Council too.
