Oscar Valdéz could return to the ring on July 21st

Mexican Oscar Valdéz could headline a card on July 21st at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, presented by Top Rank and broadcast on ESPN.

Oscar’s next ring rival could be Puerto Rican Jayson Velez (29-6-1, 22KOs) who is coming off a close loss against prospect Jaime Arboleda last February in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

Valdez (27-0, 21KOs) debuted at super featherweight last year defeating tough fighter Adam López, surviving an early knockdown.

The victory earned Valdez, who trains with Eddy Reynoso, a bout against 130-pound WBC champion Miguel Berchelt (37-1, 33KOs). This fight had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

It's a match up that fight fans the world over are eager to see. A former WBO World featherweight champion, Valdez has a record of 6-0 with 3KOs in world championship bouts, two of those wins coming against former or current world champions. The proposed fight with Berchelt has been discussed for over a year now, with most predicting an all-out Mexican war to take place between the pair.
