Oleksandr Usyk reveals his next fight in the first half of 2026

It won't be Moses Itauma

Oleksandr Usyk (24-0, 15 KO’s) last fought earlier in the year, demolishing Daniel Dubois in five rounds. 

He has since been out with a back injury, but is planning a return in the first half of 2026. 

The Ukrainian advisor, Serhii Lapiin, has now told The Ring that the undefeated star will be targeting the winner of Fabio Wardley and Joseph Parker.

He was originally meant to fight Parker back in July, but the 38-year-old's back problems caused a delay in negotiations. 

Speaking to The Ring, Lapin is confident that Usyk is nearing back in on fight shape, revealing that he is now back training. 

“He feels good and in excellent shape,” Lapin said.

Asked whether the two division champions would entertain a trilogy against Tyson Fury, Lapin admitted this was unlikely.

”Theoretically, it’s an interesting option, but for whom?

“If boxing fans truly support it, then maybe. However, in my opinion, that chapter is already closed.”

Both fights against the ‘Gypsy King’ have proven to be closely fought affairs, but there is little argument for a third, with Usyk the fair victor in each affair.

Another option circling the boxing world would be a matchup against the young and quickly ascending Moses Itauma.

Though once again, Usyk’s advisor stressed that the Ukrainian isn’t enticed by a bout against the heavy-handed prospect.

“I wouldn’t say he doesn’t want to fight Itauma,” Lappin said. 

“He’s a promising fighter, and his team has done a good job bringing him to this level and ranking. But if we analyse the heavyweight division, besides Usyk, there are plenty of top fighters.

“Itauma still needs a serious test before facing a legend. Have we seen him go the full 12-round distance? Has has been in dangerous situations in the ring? My answer is no. At this stage, he doesn’t have the tools to beat Usyk.”
