Moses Itauma shares brutally honest opinion on the Paul-AJ fight

The future of heavyweight boxing, Moses Itauma, shared his brutally honest feelings on the December 19 fight in Miami between YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul and two-time unified world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.

The 20-year-old Itauma from Chatham, Kent didn't hold back when asked for his views on the eight-round bout, using words like 'absurd' and 'worried' and questioning 'is it worth it?'

The British heavyweight said, "Jake Paul needs to fire his advisors, these people that make these fights because that's not good.

"Did Jake Paul not watch the Ngannou fight? Do you know what, there's making money and then there's like... it's just absurd.

"I don't think Jake Paul is bad for boxing, I think he's good, I like Jake Paul. You see what he's doing with women's boxing as well, I like Jake Paul.

"And I'm not saying he shouldn't take the fight. I just feel like he needs to weigh the outcomes.

"Like, say, I don't know what, $50 mill-then my health. Cars and watches [but] can't say my name... is it worth it?

"And if he wants to fight Anthony Joshua then go and do it, it's not my life.

"Me personally, if I was Jake Paul's brother [Logan], I'd be very worried."

Paul vs Joshua takes place at the Kaseya Center in Miami on December 19 and will be broadcast live on Netflix. The fight has caused a lot of controversy already, with many believing it's a mismatch that could see the smaller man from Ohio get seriously hurt.

A lot of other opinions include comments that Joshua has sold out and that the fight will be fixed to suit Paul, who has only ever fought one active professional boxer - Tommy Fury - and lost. His last opponent was almost 40 and had boxed just once in 42 months, and prior to that he fought Mike Tyson, who was 58, and had retired from boxing 20 years ago in 2005.

Although Joshua has experienced the longest hiatus of his boxing career over amateur and pro, making him an ideal candidate as a Jake Paul opponent, he is still far taller, bigger and more powerful. Aged 36, AJ is also younger than most of Jake's chosen opponents, who have an average age of 38.

Just one month later in the New Year, southpaw Itauma will fight a former AJ opponent, Jermaine Franklin, in Manchester, live on DAZN. The 32-year-old from Michigan is known for his durability and willingness to engage having taken both heavy-handed Brits Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte the distance over 12 rounds in 2022 and 2023, respectively.

Slovakian-born Moses has stopped 11 from 13 opponents, all in rounds one and two. The American is thought to be able to provide the Kent puncher with rounds ahead of world title bids in 2026.
