Joseph Parker ready for Fabio Wardley test: "I love the fire"

Joseph Parker (36-3, 24 KO’s) is set to face off against Fabio Wardley (19-0-1, 18 KO’s) on October 25 at the O2 Arena, London. 

Parker was originally scheduled to meet Daniel Dubois, but with ‘Dynamite’ currently recovering from injury, the Briton has decided to give himself till the New Year to recover. 

The New Zealander looks set for a title shot – assuming he can get past the hard-hitting Fabio Wardley – with a run of great wins under his belt, including victories over Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang. 

Wardley will be a dangerous opponent for Parker, with 18 stoppages in just 19 wins. However, speaking at their recent press conference, the 33-year-old doesn't seem bothered by the danger that lies ahead.

“Walking towards the fire? I love the fire,” Parker stated.

“I’ve fought a lot of fighters out there who are big punchers and they haven’t been able to get me out of there, so credit to Fabio Wardley for taking this fight.”

Many had originally thought the former WBO champion would get his chance at the undisputed title before the year's end, but with Usyk currently battling an apparent back issue, he’s being made to play the waiting game. 

“We could have sat and waited for Usyk, when he is ready or not injured, but we as fighters are showing that we will fight anyone at any time. I think this is going to be a great fight.”

Parker is oozing confidence ahead of the October clash, backing his experience and ringcraft to be a step above what Wardley is able to handle.

“I know Wardley is determined and says he has ticked all the boxes and got the rounds in that he needs to have a big fight like this. But fighting someone like myself is very different from fighting everyone else he has fought,” He revealed at the press conference.

“I bring a lot of experience, belief and determination, and I will win come 25th October.”
