Joesph Parker's team make increased offer to Junior Fa reviving hopes of New Zealand super fight

Parker will be looking to return to action against fellow New Zealander Fa with an improved financial offer from the 28-year-old's team

Joseph Parker (27-2 21KOS) has reportedly moved further into negotiations with Junior Fa (19-0 10KOS) to face off in a Kiwi heavyweight superfight later on in the year, after a long hiatus from action for both fighters.

Promoter David Higgins has been calling for the fight in recent months, with Parker keen to be the undisputedd king of the heavyweight division in New Zealand, and has reportedly caved in to demands of higher financial terms from Sa's team.

'Lupesoliai La'auliolemalietoa' has held the WBO heavyweight title from 2016 to 2018, and previously multiple regional heavyweight championships including the WBO Oriental, Africa, and Oceania titles; as well as the PABA, OPBF, and New Zealand titles. He also has an internationally recognised amateur pedigree, becoming a two-time New Zealand amateur heavyweight champion in 2010 and 2011, as well as winning several amateur tournaments while representing New Zealand at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in the super-heavyweight division.

In an exclusive interview with Newshub, Promoter Higgins said: "We've gone the extra mile and we've guaranteed Junior Fa and his side a minimum $500,000 and with a share on top, "It is the final offer. It's over the odds. It's probably 20 times Junior Fa's biggest ever pay day.

"It's an honour and a privilege for Junior to cash in on his career to date against Joseph Parker…. if a fear of losing isn't at play he would take the money, win the fight, move on.

With several avenues being explored for the staging of the contest, he also claimed that this was a non-negotiable offer and that the deal would likely be formed to take place in November or December at the earliest.

He said: " "I'd encourage Fa not to call my bluff because I've taken October off the table. So now it pushes out if it is going to happen, and so we're quite serious. We know the numbers. We've done the biggest shows in New Zealand and we know the values. The offer on the table is better than fair, and if they run the time down we'll take the offer on the table again."

Parker beat Shawndell Winters in his last fight back in February 2020, and will no doubt be keen to tear away any ring rust and beat his great rival and countryman Junior Fa.
