Jhonny Gonzalez calls for rematch with former conqueror Gary Russell Jr

During the WBC weekly press conference, linked by  telephone, former world champion Jhonny Gonzalez (68-11) stated he wants a rematch with Gary  Russell Jr (30-1), who won the WBC title from him via a fourth round TKO three years ago in March 2015.

Golden veteran Jhonny, aged 37, stamped his authority with a great comeback last Saturday by comprehensively defeating tough 23-year-old Nicaraguan Ramiro Blanco, who was seconded by legendary ex-world champion Rosendo Alvarez.

Jhonny says he is fighting fit and ready for the step back up to another big challenge.

A KO artist in his own right, one of an elite list of boxers in history to score over 50 knockout victories, Jhonny is  convinced that he still has a lot to offer inside the ring before thinking about retirement, and he's determined to recover the belt that was once his.

A former two-time WBC featherweight champion, the Mexican is determined to regain the green and gold belt that is still in Russell Jr's possession.
